The school system that collects fees and keeps parents in the loop.

Nolojia Schools runs the office of a Kenyan school: students and classes, fees paid by M-Pesa straight onto the right child, texts to parents, the daily register, and report cards for CBC and 8-4-4.

  • Free during the pilot
  • CBC and 8-4-4
  • Parents pay by M-Pesa

Everything the office does

One place for the school, the bursar, the teachers and the parents.

Each person sees what their role needs, on a phone or a computer.

Every student, every family

Admit students one by one or import your class lists from Excel. Classes and streams, guardians and their phones, moves, promotion and leavers, for CBC and 8-4-4.

Fees that add up

Set fees per grade, bill the term in one press, take payments with receipts, give bursaries and carry balances forward. Every family’s statement, always right.

M-Pesa straight to the right child

Send a payment prompt to a parent’s phone, or let parents pay your paybill with the admission number. The payment lands on the child’s account by itself.

Messages parents actually read

One text per family, naming each of their children, with their own balance. Fee statements and reminders on a schedule, so nobody has to remember to send them.

The register in a minute

Class teachers take the register on their phone. Parents can be texted when their child is marked absent, and the head sees the whole school at a glance.

Exams and report cards

Teachers enter their own subject’s marks. CBC levels and the KCSE 12-point scale, positions, comments, and report cards as PDFs, or results texted to parents.

A view for parents

Parents sign in with the phone number you hold for them and see their children’s fees, receipts, results and attendance, and pay by M-Pesa from the same page.

Records nobody can quietly change

Payments are never edited or deleted, only reversed with a reason. Each person has their own role, and the audit log shows who did what and when.

Fees and M-Pesa

Parents pay. The right child’s account shows it. Nobody types it in.

  • Paybill payments matched by admission number
  • Payment prompts sent to a parent’s phone
  • A receipt for every payment, on the statement at once
  • Money goes to the school’s own account

Questions

What schools ask us

Who can use Nolojia Schools now?

It is in a pilot with a small number of invited schools, who use it free while the pilot runs. Ask for a place and we will contact you to set your school up.

Does it work for CBC and 8-4-4?

Yes. Pre-primary, primary, junior and senior school under CBC, with EE, ME, AE and BE levels, and Forms 1 to 4 under 8-4-4 with the KCSE 12-point scale.

How do parents pay fees?

By M-Pesa to your school’s own paybill with the admission number as the account, or by a prompt sent to their phone. Either way the money goes to the school, and the payment is recorded on the right child with a receipt. Cash, bank and cheque payments are recorded by the bursar.

Do we have to type in all our students again?

No. Upload your class lists from Excel, with guardians and their phone numbers, and the balances families owed before you moved. Every line is checked before anything is saved.

What does texting parents cost?

Texts are paid for with SMS credits the school buys. You see exactly how many credits a message needs before you send it, and a family with two children gets one text, not two.

Can parents see their child’s records?

Yes. A parent signs in with the phone number the school has for them and a code texted to it, and sees only their own children: fees, receipts, published results and attendance.
